  • LLB/ law degree or diploma in law ; and / or
  • LSC Level 1 minimum; or
  • OISC Level 1 minimum.


  • Minimum one year’s full time experience in private practice dealing with all aspects of UK Immigration, Nationality, EEA and Asylum Law.


  • you will have individual /corporate business immigration experience covering all aspects of the UK Immigration Services;
  • an individual with a substantial following is essential;
  • an individual committed to develop new work is essential;
  • a second language would be preferable (language from any ethnic minority based);
  • fees focused;
  • IT skills;
  • professional advocacy skills within a legal environment desirable (represented clients at IAC);
  • professional communication skills, both oral and written;
  • professional organisational skills;
  • proven interpersonal skills;
  • good legal drafting skills;
  • able to work independently without secretarial support and with minimum supervision;
  • excellent client care and an understanding of the duty to the client, court and Law Society;
  • professional outlook;
  • hardworking, flexible, and able to cope with pressure and work effectively in a team or  independently;
  • maintain the firm’s reputation and observe the SRA code of conduct.


Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • have an excellent working knowledge of the immigration process and appeal system under the PBS,
    Sponsorship Licence, Entry Clearance, Nationality, EEA and Asylum Law;
  • interview and advise clients in all aspects of the UK Immigration Law;
  • prepare initial applications in country and out of country;
  • prepare cases for appeals at various stages ie First Tier Tribunal, Reconsideration Hearing, Administrative Review, Judicial Review;
  • draft letters, witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex legal documents;
  • liaise with the UKBA, Detention Centres, Courts, British Embassy and other departments as  required;
  • constantly keeping up to date with all the changes in Immigration Law;
  • maintain professional conduct, comply with SRA standards and uphold the integrity and reputation of South England Solicitors at all times;
  • to be actively involved in promoting the firm and related marketing campaigns;
  • undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Management.

South England Solicitors offers voluntary work placements for law students. The working hours, days and area of practice can be arranged to suit the individual student needs and interest. The Principal will provide comprehensive training in your chosen area and your work will be supervised at all times.

The placement will include a variety of task such as drafting, filling up forms, research, learning to use legal soft wares, watching brief in courts, learning how to obtain effective and clear instructions from clients and basic administration work such as post, photocopying and calls handling. The aim is to provide you with a real experience of the work in a solicitor’s office.

However we do not accept placements all year around but only during non peak business periods. So contact us for further details.
